Chapter 6
Brooklyn
âYou want me to get you a beer, Lord?â I ask. Lord had just gotten back; he had been out all day. He looked tired.
âNah, thanks Brooklyn.â He says. â Iâm gonna head to my office. Send Ryder when he comes in.â
I nod, giving him a smile. I couldnât thank Lord enough for what he had done for me. He had taken me in when I didnât have anyone. He had given me a home, and a family.
âYou doing alright, Brook?â Lord asks. âYou're happy here, right?â
âYea, Pres.â I say, smiling. âIâm good.â
Lord gives me a smile before walking off. I resume eating the sandwich I had been eating, while flipping through a magazine. I look up as Red walks over and say, âHey, Red. Do you think Iâve been too hard on Crow?â
âWell, A bit.â Red says. âI mean the guy came from Sinners. Thatâs where he spent most of his life. He is used to seeing women as prostitutes and strippers. You learn these things as a kid. He never had anyone to teach him some sense.â
âYea?â I ask, taking another bite. âHe fucking disgusts me though. You know I donât take shit from Men. Especially disrespect. I gave him the benefit of doubt. But then I realized itâs not cause he is going through a hard time. Heâs just a piece of shit.â
âYea, well. If you want him to change, humiliating him like that ainât gonna help.â Red says. âYou gotta talk to him. Thatâs years of conditioning, Brook. Gotta give him a chance.â
âI guess.â I say, finishing my sandwich. I look up to see that Ryder had returned, and he had Crow with him. âHey, Ryder.â I call out. âLord wanted to see ya.â
âThanks, Brook.â Ryder says, going over to give Red a kiss. He then walks off to the Lordâs office, leaving Crow behind. Crow is standing near the corner, not looking at me. Itâs been three days since that incident, after which Crow has avoided me like the plague.
I take out a glass and pour him a Jack Daniels neat. I walk over and hand it to him, saying, âYou wanna call a truce?â
He looks up at me, and I can see the surprise in his face. âOkay." He says, taking the glass from me.
âYou know, you canât treat women like shit. I know thatâs how you were brought up. Thatâs what you saw growing up, but that ainât the way.â I say, watching him.
He doesnât reply, just takes a sip from his glass. âI am sorry about what happened with the Sinners though. I still donât know why you fucking joined them.â I say, hoping to get him to talk.
âSeems like you already know what my father did. I was ashamed. Too full of shame to ask Ryderâs Dad to let me stay. My father stole from the club to support his habit. After that, I didnât think the Saints would accept me?â Crow says, after a while. âAll I wanted was a family, someone to call my own, you know? Saints were what I called my own.
